2023 Korea Handball Association Championship National Middle and High School Championships Ilshin Girls’ High School and Jodae Girls’ High School will face each other in the finals. Jeonbuk Jeil High School and Cheonan Sindang High School in the South High School Division, Cheonan Dong Middle School and Jincheon Middle School in the South Central Division, and Inhwa Girls’ Middle School and Chronic Middle School in the Girls Middle Division will advance to the finals and have a final showdown for the championship.
Hosted by the Busan Daily and the Korea Handball Association, on the 23rd, the 6th day of the opening, the semi-finals by category were held simultaneously at Goseong National Sports Center and Goseong Indoor Gymnasium in Gyeongnam.
In the women’s high school division, Ilshin Girls’ High School, which is aiming for a second consecutive championship, and Hwangji Information Industry High School (Hwangji Jeongsan High School), a traditional powerhouse, faced each other in the semifinals. Ilshin Girls’ High School advanced to the semifinals with 1st place in Group A by winning all 3 matches (6 points) in the group stage, and Hwangji Jeongsan High School advanced to the semifinals with 2nd place in Group B (2 wins, 1 loss, 4 points).
As expected from the match between the championship candidates, the match between the two teams was fierce from the beginning. Hwangji Jeongsan High School scored first with a goal by Kim So-yul, but Ilshin Girls’ High School took a 3-2 lead with goals by Cho Yoo-hee and Kim Seo-jin. Ilshin Girls’ High School took a 2-point lead, 7-5, in the 13th minute of the first half thanks to consecutive goals from Cho Yoo-hee and Yoo Hee-bin.
The counterattack from Hwangji Jeongsan High School was also fierce. Shin Chae-hyun, Kim Se-jin, and Jang Hyeon-jeong scored consecutively, turning the score 10-8 in the 18th minute of the first half. Hwangjijeongsan High School balanced the score 15-15 again with goals from Jang Hyeon-yeon and Kim So-yul, who received help from Shin Chae-hyun. The tense aspect of the match began to tilt toward Ilshin Girls’ High School after the 13th minute of the second half. At 13:34 in the second half, Kim Seo-jin’s goal reversed the score to 20-19, and Ilshin Girls’ High School ran away with a 23-19, 4-point lead after Kim Ji-ah, Kim Ji-seon, and Jo Yu-hee scored in about 2 minutes. Hwangji Jeongsan High School pursued with Kim So-yul and Jang Hyeon-jeong scoring consecutive goals, but Ilshin Girls’ High School’s defense and goalkeeper Kim Da-in’s save blocked the game with 9 minutes left in the second half, and they were tied at 22 points. In the meantime, Ilshin Girls’ High School advanced to the finals with goals from Cho Yoo-hee and Kim Seo-jin to secure a 28-22, 6-point victory. In the girls’ high school’s second semi-final, Chodae Girls’ High School advanced to the final by beating strong Gyeongnam Physical Education High School after a game toss. In the South High School, Jeonbuk Jeil High School and Cheonan Sindang High School will face each other in the final. Jeonbuk Jeil High School defeated Seonsan High School 24-20 in the semifinals to reach the final. Cheonan Sindang High School beat Jeongseok Aviation Science High School 37-33, burning the final flame for the championship against Jeonbuk Jeil High School.
The championship in the South Central Division was overshadowed by the final match between Cheonan Dong Middle School and Jin Cheon Middle School. Cheonan Dong Middle School defeated Changwon Central Middle School 30-27 after a bloody battle in the semi-finals and secured a ticket to the final. Kim Tae-hyun, who scored 14 goals, led the attack.
Thanks to the performance of Kwon Soon-ho (10 goals), Jincheon Middle School defeated Seonsan Middle School 27-24 and advanced to the final.
In the women’s middle division, Inhwa Girls’ Middle School and Chronic Middle School will face off in the final. Inhwa Girls’ Middle School advanced to the final after winning the semi-finals 18-17, by 1 point. Chungcheong Middle School beat Jeungpyeong Women’s Middle School 16-12 and aims for the championship.
