Jose Mourinho has taken a shot at Tottenham Hotspur, specifically chairman Daniel Levy.
Mourinho spoke to reporters at Roma’s Trigoria training center on Friday (June 25) ahead of the club’s UEFA media day.
Roma will play Sevilla in the UEFA Europa League final of the 2022/23 season on June 1 at 4 a.m. at the Puskás Arena in Budapest, Hungary.
Mourinho suddenly brought up Tottenham when asked what he thought he would leave behind at Roma when he leaves the club.
He said: “At every club I have left my mark. I hope Tottenham fans don’t misunderstand me. But the only one I don’t have a close relationship with is Tottenham,” he said.
“Maybe it’s because the stadium was empty because of the pandemic, and the chairman, Daniel Levy, didn’t give me too much,” he added메이저사이트.
Mourinho added: “People are not stupid, they understand that I gave everything. It’s not a question of winning. The fans recognize that I fought for them every day. Some people would laugh if I said I was a madridista, an interiorista or a Romanista. But in my case, I try to reciprocate the love of the fans and it’s mutual,” he said.
Mourinho went on to manage FC Porto, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Tottenham.
Mourinho was appointed Spurs manager in November 2019 and led the club to its first final in 13 years in April 2021 before being sacked two days before the final.
The only Spurs manager to end his career without a trophy, Mourinho immediately took charge of Roma and won the club’s first ever UEFA Europa Conference title in the 2021/22 season.
Now that Mourinho has said that he’d rather not be associated with the title, the obvious question is his relationship with Levy. He had a negative perception of Levy because he didn’t have much support.
Mourinho brought in Steven Berghain, Jedson Fernandes, Giovanni Lo Celso, Sergio Reggilon, Matt Doherty, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Roden, Carlos Vinicius, and free agents Gareth Bale and Joe Hart.
All of his transfers were failures. Only one of these signings was a success – Hojbjerg. Mourinho’s interpretation of this was that he was not supported.
