Left-handed pitcher Max Fried (29, Atlanta Braves) will undergo an annual salary adjustment for the second year in a row.
NBC Sports reported on the 4th (Korean time) the news of Fried’s annual salary adjustment. Fried asked for 15 million dollars (18.8 billion won) in salary for the 2023 season, and is facing the club, which offered 13.5 million dollars (16.9 billion won). At the time, the player’s request was $6.85 million (8.6 billion won), and the club’s offer was $6.6 million (8.3 billion won).
Fried was one of the best pitchers in MLB last year. He made 30 starts, going 14-7 with a 2.48 earned run average. He played the role of an ace with 185, the most in a single season, and 1/3 innings. He won the National League Pitcher Gold Glove (GG) for three consecutive years, and was voted second after Sandy Alcantara (Miami Marlins) in the NL Cy Young Video poll.
In the previous three MLB annual salary adjustments this year, two players won. Pitchers Jesús Luzardo ($2.45 million) and Luis Arraes ($6.1 million) both won against Miami and earned their desired salaries. However, Diego Castillo ($2.95 million) of the Seattle Mariners accepted the club’s offer. NBC Sports predicted that there will be 20 additional salary adjustments by February 17th.
